Chapter 5
At the Airport

At last, Steven’s father was caught. Kathy and Steven were talking under a tree in the school.
“How many years will your father be put in jail?” Kathy asked Steven.
“I don’t know…” Steven answered, “he may have to stay in the jail for his whole life.”
“I am sorry, Steven.” Kathy said.
“That is not your fault…” Steven said.
“However, if I did not…” Kathy hadn’t finished the sentence, Steven interrupted, “I said that is not your fault.” Steven said again. Then he went away. Kathy remained alone.
The summer holiday came again. Kathy went to her grandparents’ old house. She couldn’t find her uncle’s ghost anymore. She was not very happy during the summer holiday because no one played with her. She couldn’t find Steven. She thought that he might be on a trip or camping.
It was the time to start school. Kathy was happy again. She wanted to see Steven. However, she couldn’t find his name on the name list. She was very surprised. Then she heard some of the classmates were talking about Steven.
“Steven will go to Canada today. Would you like to go to the airport?” One of the classmates asked.
“Yes, I would like to go. Today after school, we will go to the airport together.” Another classmate turned to Kathy, “Do you want to go to the airport, Kathy?”
“Oh, yes,” Kathy answered. Kathy didn’t know Steven was leaving. She wanted to know why.
A lot of students were going to the airport. They saw Steven. Steven saw them, too. He also noticed Kathy. He then walked towards Kathy.
“Let’s go over there. I have something to say to you.” Steven pointed at a not very crowded place. Kathy agreed. She had something to ask Steven, too.
“I am going to Canada to study,” Steven told Kathy.
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” Kathy asked him.
“I didn’t know how to tell you,” Seven said, “I have a question to ask you.”
“What’s that?” Kathy asked.
“Did you want to make friends with me just because you wanted to help your uncle?” Steven asked.
“My uncle asked me to do it,” Kathy said, “However, when I got to know you, I…” Kathy hadn’t finished, Steven said, “That’s enough.” Then he ran back to his classmates. He took the luggage, and went into the restricted area. Kathy looked at Steven’s back until he disappeared from her sight. Tears dropped off from Kathy’s eyes.
